alanya2Alanya is a city situated in 250 km from Antalya city center and 230 km from the International airport in the eastern coast of Antalya Bay. The history of the town dates back to the antiquity. However, the research done in Kadý ini Cave, near the city centre, in 1957 showed that the first settlement in Alanya dated back to late Paleolitic Age 20 thousand years ago. The most remarkable characteristic of Alanya, making it different from other tourist centres of the world and particularly from the Mediterranean is that the city centre has become a big holiday resort where all kinds of services and goods are available. LIFE STYLE IN ALANYA

It is certainly not easy to describe the beauty of the sea and the sun of Alanya. The clean and clear beaches of Alanya are ones of the best on the Mediterranean coast. There is no need to explain the satisfaction of swimming in the turquoise sea, soaking up the sun or walking along the long shore. The open market in Alanya will dazzle you with vibrant colours , fragrances and a wide selection of goods. It will also be a perfect occasion to practice your haggling skills. Alanya is famous for its vibrant nightlife with a great number of bars, restaurants and nightclubs, many of them open all night long. The harbour area is particularly attractive with a number of good nightspots.

BEACHES OF ALANYA

Blue Flag is an internationally recognized award given to beaches which conform to the highest standards of cleanness of the sea water and the beach. Microbiological and physiochemical analyses of the water are done every fortnight. In Alanya the colour of the sea turns from blue to turquoise and in still weather it is possible to see the fish deep in the sea. The west and east coast of Alanya are covered with miles of beaches. In the west, there are Damlataþ and Cleopatra beaches and in the east, there are Keykubat and Portakal beaches. There are more beaches outside the city such as Ulas, Konakli, Fugla, Incekum and Mahmutlar.

Damlatas Beach

It is said to be the best of Alanya Beaches and is situated to the west of the historical peninsula with the Damlataþ Cave . The beach is wide and sandy and it has been awarded a Blue Flag. The small bay of this beach extending to the peninsula is called Cleopatra Beach . According to the mythology Egyptian Queen Cleopatra, during a voyage in Mediterranean , stopped by in Alanya and had a swim in this bay.

Cleopatra Beach

It is a part of Damlataþ Beach and it is about 2 km long. It has a Blue Flag. Its sea and beach is sandy. The depth of the sea reaches height of a man after 3-4 steps. It is the most popular beach of Alanya attracting thousands of people during season. Behind the beach, there are sport fields, parks, hotels and cafes. Along the beach, there are some water sport facilities such as parachute, Jet Ski, sea bicycle, etc; entertainment water sports activities are done beyond swimming area. Entrance to the beach is free but deck chairs and umbrellas are due to payment. About every 50 metres you can find a refreshment stall where fast food and drinks are available. Sunset in Cleopatra Beach is particularly worth seeing.

Keykubat Beach

alanya3A 3 km long Blue Flag beach situated to the east of the peninsula. The sea and the beach are sandy but there are some sand rocks in some parts. Because of the green area of the hotels and the many begonville flowers along the beach, it is also called Begonville Beach . Just as Cleopatra, this is also a very popular beach. As the sea here deepens gradually, the beach is more children friendly. All kinds of water sports facilities are available. Entrance is free and the beach services are due to payment. Deck chairs, umbrellas can be found from the refreshment stalls located every 50 metres. The restaurants and cafes of the nearby hotels welcome everybody. You can also go on a boat trip from the quays of some of the hotels.

Ulas Beach

It is 5 km west of Alanya and next to a road. It is arranged as a picnic area on a rocky cape; the bay beach is reached by some stairs. The slope behind the beach is given a look of an old fortress. The beach is also the stopping point of some boats going on a daily voyage. There are some natural tables, sitting places and stoves for cooking in the picnic area. There area is surrounded by trees and flowers. The transportation is supplied by regular bus shuttles from the city centre. Entrance to the picnic area and the beach is due to payment. There is a car park. Ulas beach is frequented mainly by locals.

Portakal (Orange) Beach

It is about 1 km long and is a part of Keykubat Beach on the east side of the city. It starts from the place where Oba Creek reaches the sea and finished where the Dim Creek reaches the sea. Behind the beach rise the magnificent slopes of the Taurus Mountains . In some parts the beach is 100 metres wide. The sea is mostly sandy. Entrance is free. It is possible to get service from refreshment stalls or the beach cafes of the hotels. Various water sports facilities are available as well. Windsurfing instructors are available in some hotels. The water is cool where the creeks reach the sea.

Fugla Beach

Situated in a bay some 20 km west of Alanya. Daily trip boats stop here for lunch and swim. The sea and the beach are sandy. There are some restaurants in front of the hotels famous with their fish and kebabs. There are some water sports facilities by the coast.

Mahmutlar Beach

It is about 20 km east of Alanya. The sea and the beach are mostly sandy but have sand rocks in some parts. The coast is around 5 km long and it has a few natural beaches. In the parts where there are refreshment stalls, deck chairs and umbrellas are available. Entrance is free. Mahmutlar coast is on Alanya-Gazipaþa road and there are public buses to the area all day long.
